What's a Realtor?
Realtors are sales agents and brokers who, by joining the
National Association of Realtors, promise to conduct their business in a manner that may be higher than that mandated by law.

Realtor® logoA good REALTOR understands and follows the premise that the interests of our country and our people require the highest and best use of the land and the widest distribution of land ownership. "They require the creation of adequate housing, the building of functional cities, the development of productive industries and farms, and the preservation of a healthful environment."

A REALTOR who represents a buyer, seller, landlord, tenant or other client is obligated to protect and promote the interests of their client. However, the REALTOR must ALWAYS treat all parties fairly and honestly. From the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the National Association of Realtors, "The term REALTOR has come to connote competency, fairness, and high integrity resulting from adherence to a lofty ideal of moral conduct in business relations. No inducement of profit and no instruction from clients ever can justify departure from this ideal."

Every state has a Real Estate Commission of some type that oversees the actions of their industry. In Mississippi, we also have the Mississippi Association of Realtors that oversees the ethics and standards REALTORS are expected to maintain. These organizations are located in Jackson and are the best place to locate additional information about REALTORS and the standards of their industry.
